Anxiety, fear and panic

Symptoms of Anxiety:

Anxiety can cause many different symptoms.

It's not always easy to recognise when anxiety is why you're feeling or acting differently.

Physical symptoms:
​
faster, irregular or more noticeable heartbeat
feeling lightheaded and dizzy
headaches
chest pains
loss of appetite
sweating
breathlessness
feeling hot
shaking
Emotional symptoms:
​
feeling tense or nervous
being unable to relax
worrying about the past or future
feeling tearful
not being able to sleep
difficulty concentrating
fear of the worst happening
intrusive traumatic memories
obsessive thoughts
Changes in behaviour:
​
not being able to enjoy your leisure time
difficulty looking after yourself
struggling to form or maintain relationships
worried about trying new things
avoiding places and situations that create anxiety
compulsive behaviour, such as constantly checking things

Some people suffer from anxiety that is caused or focused on a particular situation, thought or activity.

Generalised Anxiety - Worrying excessively

Panic Disorder - Feeling an overwhelming sense of anxiety or impending catastrophe (collapse, death)

Social Anxiety - Feeling scared or fearful or judgement or embarrassment in social situations

Health Anxiety - Fear of significant ill health and its consequence (checking symptoms and reassurance seeking)

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder - Anxiety related to reoccurring intrusive thoughts and compulsions to act in certain ways
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder - Anxiety linked to past life-threatening events and distressing memories.

Specific Phobia - Anxiety related to a specific object or activity (spiders, heights etc)
